Major Recall After Thousands of Glittery iPhone Cases Cause Horrific Burns

  • 03/08/2017

Your cute, sparkly iPhone case could be putting you in dangerThe company behind some of the most popular glitter-filled iPhone cases is recalling hundreds of thousands of its products after nearly two dozen of reports of chemical burns.

It turns out that if the sparkly liquid inside the cases leaks onto your skin, it can cause some pretty nasty chemical burns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the cases have already been linked to 24 burn injuries around the world.

The cases in question were all made by a company called MixBin, though many of them were sold under popular brand names, like Victoria's Secret and Tory Burch. Many were also sold on Amazon under the MixBin name. The CPSC estimates at least 263,000 of the accessories were sold between October 2015 and June 2017.

If you do have one of the recalled cases, this is not a recall you'll want to ignore. The CPSC reports that at least one burn victim has "permanent scarring" and  another "reported chemical burns and swelling to her leg, face, neck, chest, upper body and hands."
